Since the shorter days and inclement weather of a New York winter make for a great time to come to Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal to get rid of your unwanted hair, in this first blog of December let’s introduce you to our Elite+ laser from Cynosure.
Here’s more information on the Elite+ and how it helps our patients bid adieu to their unwanted hair.
Two wavelengths in one
The Elite+ laser features two different wavelengths in a single system.
- 755-nm Alexandrite laser
This wavelength has high melanin absorption characteristics. This is critical for successful laser hair removal, as the laser energy needs to be absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft. When this happens the light energy instantly converts to heat. This heat travels down the hair shaft into the follicle, damaging or destroying the follicle and preventing it from growing hair in the future. As you would assume, the better the melanin absorption, the more energy delivered into the hair follicle.
- 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser
This wavelength is excellent for laser hair removal on patients with darker skin tones. This is a problem for most lasers, as the laser has a problem differentiating between the melanin in the hair and the melanin in the patient’s darker skin tones. That limits the amount of laser energy that can be used to avoid burning the skin of the patient. The Elite+ is able to accurately differentiate hair tone from skin tone, allowing Romeo & Juliette to provide effective hair removal that most other providers cannot offer for darker skin tones.
Other benefits of the Elite+
- Multiple spot sizes can be adjusted to the area being treated.
- Adjustable pulse widths give us the option of longer pulse durations, which is perfect for darker skin tones.
- Air-cooling keeps our patients comfortable.
