Facial Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal | NYCPeople sometimes think laser hair removal can’t be done on the face. Maybe the skin’s too delicate. Maybe the proximity to the eyes is an issue.

Not true. At Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal, we have the most advanced assortment of lasers, offering the optimal wavelengths for laser hair removal anywhere on the body, including the face.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal for Women

Most women have some unwanted hair on their face usually above the upper lip or maybe in the sideburn area. It may be more of the peach fuzz variety, but shaving the face is a man’s game. And waxing and using depilatory creams doesn’t sound like much fun on gentle facial skin.

Removing that facial hair with our lasers at Romeo & Juliette is the answer. Here are the benefits for women when it comes to facial laser hair removal:

  • Permanently reduce hair on the upper lip, sideburns, chin, and neck
  • Avoid the aftermath of shaving: razor burn, razor bumps, ingrown hairs
  • Forget about the hair once and for all
  • Laser hair removal leaves skin soft, smooth, and supple
  • Remove 85 to 90 percent of the hair permanently
  • Any re-growth is finer and paler
  • Safe and easy procedure

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal for Men

Men are supposed to love dragging a sharp metal blade across their cheeks, upper lip, and chin every morning, right? Wrong. There are few more tedious chores than daily shaving. More and more men are having Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal put our industry-leading lasers to work on their facial hair. Men opt to have facial laser hair removal on the full beard, the neckline, and the back of the neck.

Here are the benefits of facial laser hair removal for men:

  • End the daily grind of shaving
  • No more ingrown hairs
  • No more paying a fortune for razor blades
  • Remove 85 to 90 percent of the hair permanently
  • No more dry, tortured skin
  • Better, softer facial skin
  • No more 5 o’clock shadow
  • Safe and easy procedure

Why Do Some Women Have Facial Hair?

About 20 million women remove their facial hair at least once a week. Excess hair growth can be a side effect of the changing hormones that come with aging. It can seem that the fine vellus hair that was on our faces before puberty has been replaced by dark hair, also called terminal hair. This growth of facial hair is normal and can usually be linked to an increase in the androgen to estrogen ratio as estrogen levels decline during menopause.

There is one cause of female facial hair growth that is not normal, however — hirsutism. Hirsutism is caused by an overproduction of androgens by the ovaries or the adrenal gland. It can have a variety of causes, everything from polycystic ovary syndrome to taking certain medications such as oral contraceptives.

How Does Facial Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal follows the same procedure wherever it is done on the body. The laser energy is pulsed onto the unwanted hair. The laser light energy is absorbed by the melanin (which provides the hair color) in the hair shaft. The energy then converts to heat and travels down the shaft into the hair follicle. There, the heat damages the follicle, preventing the follicle from producing hair in the future.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of laser hair removal treatments you will need varies completely by the person. Plan on anywhere from 3-7 treatments, with occasional touchups after that. The goal is to catch as many hairs as possible in the growth phase. But there’s the catch — every one of our millions of hairs operates independently and can be in any of the three cycles at any time.

Why Do I Need Multiple Treatments?

People wonder why they need multiple treatments to remove their hair permanently. It all has to do with the human hair growth cycles: growth (anagen), transitional (catagen), and resting (telogen). Laser energy is only effective when the hair is in the growth/anagen phase. This is because these hairs are still actively engaged in the follicle. During the catagen and telogen phases, the hairs are in the process of being shed, so laser energy has no effect on the follicles.

Will the Hair Grow Back?

Sometimes the laser energy doesn’t completely damage the hair follicle and over time it can again grow hair. Plus, with so many hairs on our bodies, including our faces, it’s virtually impossible to remove them all. We achieve 85 to 90 percent hair reduction for our patients. Any hairs that do re-grow tend to be finer and lighter in color. Later “touch-up” sessions can keep these hairs to a minimum.

Does Facial Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

Most of our patients at Romeo & Juliette tolerate laser hair removal very well, including on the face. When the laser energy pulses onto your skin, patients equate the feeling to that of a small rubber band being snapped lightly on the skin. If you prefer, we can apply some topical numbing cream prior to your session. Plus, don’t forget what shaving and waxing feels like!

Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal has been commonplace for the past 20 years. It has been thoroughly tested and proven safe. At Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal our entire team has the industry’s most extensive training, coupled with the largest assortment of lasers to match our patients’ varying hair types and colors. After your treatment you may have some slight redness and tenderness across the treatment area, but that’s about it. There isn’t any recovery.
